London Day 2 - Monday March 27

Magical Monday

Today was our highly anticipated tour of WB Studios to see the sets of all 8 Harry Potter movies! We took the train from Euston station to Watford Junction. From there a bus picked us up to take us to the movie lot.


Behind the Scenes

The studio was absolutely massive. We ended up spending four hours touring the entire space. Some of the highlights for me were: the costumes (specifically the Yule Ball and from the attack on Gringotts), inside the Gryffindor and Slytherin dormitories, Dumbledore's office, and the Lestrange vault/attack on Gringotts. They also had an area called the backlot where you could explore Privet Drive, The Knight Bus, and the Greenhouse. It is honestly too much to list it all here, but it was absolutely magical and so well done!


A London Evening

After reconvening at the hotel to drop off all of my Potter themed souvenirs, we stopped by a lovely Italian restaurant for woodfired pizza. I also got the tiramisu for dessert, which was delicious! Next up was an even walk to the Thames. One of Karen's goals for this trip was to get some beautiful pictures of London at night. Not only were we able to get some great landscapes, but we also had some fun posing by random monuments and miraculously still standing telephone booths. It was a perfect way to unwind at the end of the day!

Day 1: Reykjavik

Today marked day one of our Northern European beginning in Iceland! Karen and I arrived on different planes, but within a few minutes of each other. Since we landed around 6am the NCL shuttle took us for breakfast at the Harpa before taking us to the port to begin the boarding process. The building was absolutely stunning and represented the style of architecture in the city center. We were fortunate to boarding early and have plenty of time to explore the ship. Here are a few pictures of us enjoying the sights! We had beautiful weather as it was around 50 degrees with the sun gracing us with its presence for much of the afternoon. We ended our first day with dinner at Cagney's steakhouse. I had a crab cake with a petite filet mignon and of course the seven layer chocolate cake for dessert!

Days 7 and 8: Bergen and At Sea

Bergen, Norway proved to be our rainiest and coldest port, but we didn't let the rain get in the way of our plans! Karen and I headed on foot towards the funicular that would take us to the top of Mount Foyen. While the views were clouded the top of this mountain had a lot to explore. There were trails, forests with large trees and a troll forest to explore!  After lots of exploring (a little more than we bargained for as we missed the turn off for the lake!) Karen took the funicular down to town and I hiked to the city center. I ended up in the middle of an absolute downpour and was quite drenched by the time I made it back to port! After a much needed hot shower and dinner Karen and I eat up at Syd Norman's, the pub on board that features live music. The group performing was absolutely fantastic and did an 80s prom theme night! Kenya Days 10 and 11

We left Amboseli National Park and flew to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This conservancy is different from the national parks we have visited because it is fenced in. They are known for their protection of black and white rhinos. Here you can find the last two female white northern rhinos. It was a stark reminder of what humanity has done to these animals.  On our drive, we stopped at the equator. We have now visited the equator in two different countries in the last year! We thought that was pretty cool! Once we arrived at the hotel, we had no more scheduled game drives. It was a full day to just rest and relax before the last leg of the trip. This is where my siblings and I organized a beautiful outdoor dinner for our parents 40th anniversary. It was absolutely wonderful and a very special way to celebrate my parents!
