Day 1: Reykjavik

Today marked day one of our Northern European beginning in Iceland! Karen and I arrived on different planes, but within a few minutes of each other. Since we landed around 6am the NCL shuttle took us for breakfast at the Harpa before taking us to the port to begin the boarding process. The building was absolutely stunning and represented the style of architecture in the city center.
We were fortunate to boarding early and have plenty of time to explore the ship. Here are a few pictures of us enjoying the sights! We had beautiful weather as it was around 50 degrees with the sun gracing us with its presence for much of the afternoon.
We ended our first day with dinner at Cagney's steakhouse. I had a crab cake with a petite filet mignon and of course the seven layer chocolate cake for dessert!

Arrival in Tanzania!

After departing on Wednesday from Denver, we arrived in Tanzania on Friday morning. We were fortunate to have no flight delays, which made everything run smoothly. The hardest part was just making sure we all stayed awake during our 8 hour layover in Frankfurt so that we would sleep on the flight to Kiliminjaro! As we were descending in Tanzania we had the most stunning views on Kiliminjaro (19,341), it felt surreal to being seeing this iconic mountain in person. We landed in Kiliminjaro at 7:30 and the morning and met up with our guide. We drove about an hour to our hotel in Arusha. We are staying at the Grand Melia Hotel and the grounds are beautiful. The hotel has beautiful views of Mt. Meru (14,968), their own coffee plantation, bee hives, and farm. At breakfast I enjoyed a latte and the coffee was so smooth and delicious. Kenya Days 10 and 11

We left Amboseli National Park and flew to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This conservancy is different from the national parks we have visited because it is fenced in. They are known for their protection of black and white rhinos. Here you can find the last two female white northern rhinos. It was a stark reminder of what humanity has done to these animals.  On our drive, we stopped at the equator. We have now visited the equator in two different countries in the last year! We thought that was pretty cool! Once we arrived at the hotel, we had no more scheduled game drives. It was a full day to just rest and relax before the last leg of the trip. This is where my siblings and I organized a beautiful outdoor dinner for our parents 40th anniversary. It was absolutely wonderful and a very special way to celebrate my parents!
